Note: Protel 99 SE was developed by Protel International Limited (later renamed Altium Limited), not Microsoft Corporation.
Protel 99 SE is a legacy Windows-based electronic design automation (EDA) suite for printed circuit board (PCB) development. Released around 1999, it provides an integrated environment for schematic capture, PCB layout, library management, and CAM preparation. Its rule-driven workflow supports hierarchical schematics, interactive routing, a basic autorouter, design rule and electrical rule checking (DRC/ERC), and netlist/ECO synchronization between schematics and layout. The software can generate manufacturing outputs such as Gerber (RS‑274X), Excellon drill files, pick-and-place data, and bills of materials. Widely used in the early 2000s for small to medium-complexity designs, Protel 99 SE is considered a stable, easy-to-learn tool for legacy projects and education. It has been superseded by Altium Designer, and running it on modern operating systems may require compatibility settings or virtualization.
Protel 99 SE is developed by Microsoft and is used by 39 users of Software Informer. The names of program executable files are Client99SE.exe, CLIENT~1.EXE. Works with prj, pld, sch, ddb, lib, sdf, rcs, net and pcb file types. This particular product is not fit to be reviewed by our informers.
